Becoming a Catholic
LEARN ABOUT THE PROCESS TO JOIN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
How do you become a Catholic?
Becoming a Catholic involves discerning stages of development as you go. There are four periods/stages in the process.
First Stage
Inquiring about the the basic gospel message and about entrance into the Church. This stage leads to some development of faith and an initial conversion of life.
Second Stage
The second period begins with formal admission to the catechumenate. This is a period of solid catechesis and formation.
Third Stage
The third period commences with the rite of election. The candidates are ready to receive the sacraments of initiation. Intense personal spiritual preparation is emphasised at this time. The celebration of the sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil is the high point of the Christian initiation journey.
Baptism
The final period embraces the Easter season and continues with the weekly celebration of the Christian community at each Eucharist.
